We’ve all heard the term blemishes on the skin but do we really know what a blemish really is? If you are not still clear, we tell you here – a blemish is basically any spot or scar on the skin which leaves a visible mark that hinders your physical appearance. It can be an acne scar, pigmentation, uneven skin tone, age spots or even a birthmark. Though you cannot really get rid of birthmarks with home remedies, you can lighten other types of blemishes at home. Here are a few remedies that work.
Potato and tomato pack
This pack is recommended by cosmetic dermatologist Dr Jaishree Sharad in her book ‘Skin Talks’. Since potato has skin lightening properties and tomato has lycopene which is an antioxidant, the two help in reducing dark spots. Here’s how you can make it.
You need:
- Juice of one potato
- 1 mashed tomato
Steps:
- Grate or crush a potato to get its juice.
- Add the juice to a mashed tomato.
- Apply it on the blemishes and leave it on for 20 minutes.
- Rinse it off with water.
Curd and turmeric pack
Curd has lactic acid in it which forms a protective layer on your skin while turmeric powder has curcumin which lightens any spots. Using this pack on your skin can therefore fade blemishes away. Here are steps to make the pack.
You need:
- 2 tsp fresh curd
- A pinch of turmeric powder
Steps:
- Take curd in a bowl and add turmeric powder to it.
- Mix well and apply on the blemishes.
- Let it stay for 15 minutes and then wash off with plain water.
Lemon and honey pack
Lemon acts a natural bleaching agent and honey has soothing and antibacterial properties. The combination of the two thus makes for an effective anti-blemish remedy. You need to apply this pack once or twice every week. It is better to do so in the night and if you apply it in the day, make sure you apply ample sunscreen before stepping out in the sun.
You need:
- 1 lemon
- 1 tsp honey
Steps:
- Squeeze lemon juice in a bowl.
- Add honey to it and mix well.
- Now dab this on the blemishes and let it stay for 15 minutes.
- Wash off with lukewarm water and pat dry your skin.
Blemishes on the back
A blemish can be on any part of your body. Many women have dark spots or pigmentation on the back as we hardly pay much attention to this area. But when you have to sport backless cholis or dresses, you need to make sure your back is spot-free. Dr in her book ‘Beauty At Your Fingertips’ shares one pack for a flawless back.
You need:
- 1 cup green gram
- 2 tsp sandalwood paste
- 2 tsp holy basil paste
- 2 tsp marigold paste
- 1 tsp wild turmeric powder
Steps:
- Grind the green gram and add holy basil, sandalwood and marigold paste.
- Next, add wild turmeric powder and mix well.
- Apply this on your back and leave it to dry.
- Then wash it off with water.
