Almond or badam has a host of health benefits but it also does wonders for your skin and hair. It contains antioxidants, vitamin E, good fats, protein and other essential nutrients which come in handy to keep beauty problems at bay. Though eating a handful of almonds soaked overnight in water will do you good, you can also use it to make pastes which you can apply on your skin and hair. Here’s how you can use almonds in a DIY beauty treatment at home.
For skin brightening
Our skin tends to look dull because of external factors like pollution, dirt, sweat, etc. piling on it. In order to brighten the skin in a natural way, make a pack using almonds.
- Make a powder of 4-5 crushed almonds, one teaspoon of milk, some lemon juice and gram flour (besan).
- Mix well and apply on the face for 30 minutes.
- Wash it off with water and say hello to a fairer complexion.
To beat acne scars
If your pimple has left behind its scar, massage gently with almond oil over the scar to help lighten it.
- Another way to use it is by mixing almond oil, honey and lemon juice with some milk and applying on the scar.
- Use this for a week to make it fainter in appearance.
For clear skin
Clear skin without spots and marks is something we all crave for but with age, the skin begins to lose its sheen and age spots become more visible.
- To combat this, make a pack of finely powdered almonds, sandalwood powder (chandan) and some raw milk.
- Apply this on face, neck and even arms and legs if required.
- Let it dry and then wash it with water.
To reduce tanning
Undue sun exposure can tan the skin and make it look darker than your complexion.
- To remove this layer of tan, make a paste by adding almond oil, honey, lemon juice and milk powder.
- Apply on the affected areas for about 20 minutes and use it weekly twice to see visible results.
- This will also help restore lost moisture of your skin.
To prevent hair fall
Sweet almond oil is considered as one of the oils which can help prevent hair loss because of its emollient or softening action. It is rich in vitamin D and E and also minerals like magnesium, calcium. Acting like a natural moisturiser, it prevents your hair from going brittle. It also provides nutrition your hair can feed on and stay healthy, stick and strong.
- Warm it for a few seconds before application and then use your fingers to apply on your scalp.
- Massage gently and let it penetrate in the roots.
- Keep it for a few hours and then wash with a mild shampoo.
