6 hacks for perfect winged eyeliner

Winged eyeliner is one of those beauty basics that sounds amazing in theory, but can cause
serious anxiety. Now the wings can only go two ways: make you look like an angel

(the expectation) or an angel of death (the reality). But if you want to soar and not sink, here are five easy ways to get it right

...
1. If you're new to winged liner, start with a pencil first. A pencil eyeliner is easy to apply, but it doesn't spread as smoothly or thickly as gel or liquid liners. But that's a good thing for

winged liner virgins, because you can control the spread.

2. Don't think wings, think a triangle. A perfect cat eye is actually a triangle. Decide the

shape of your wing. Draw a dotted line before colouring it in, just like a sketchbook.

3. Use scotch tape. Put a piece of clear tape starting from the inner corner of your eyelid,

going out at an angle. Get another short piece and put it below your bottom lashes at an

angle, joining the two tapes. Now fill in the space. Pull it off and your perfect winged eyeliner is done.
4. The shaky hand struggle is real. But tackle it in three easy steps.

Step 1: Sit down.

Step 2: Place your elbow on a flat surface.

Step 3: Rest your pinkie on your cheek to stabilise your hand.

5. Keep a makeup remover-soaked cotton swab handy for any mishaps.

6. Concealer to the rescue. Any liner mishaps can be taken care of with a dab of primer or concealer that can fix the smudges.

6 Ways to Get the Perfect Eyeliner Look for Your Eye Shap

When it comes to eyeliner, there isn't a shape that is going to make you look bad, but certain tricks accentuate them and can even bring symmetry to asymmetrical eyes.created six looks for six different eye shapes which you can enjoy

Asymmetrical Eyes: If one is slightly larger than the other, you'll want to use a liner technique that will help you correct and equal out both your eyes. Jeung suggests using a black kohl liner, like Rimmel London ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eye Liner in "Black," along the lashline, from the inner corner to the outer corner, increasing the width at the outer corner on the slightly uneven eye only to make it appear wider and even.

Close-Set Eyes: The key to this eye shape is creating the illusion that your eyes are wider apart than they are. First, use concealer on the inner corners to lighten and open up the eye area. Try NudeStix Concealer Pencil. Then, on the outer third part of your eye, create a "V" shape using a black liner, and then trace the shape with a jumbo liquid liner to make a thick wing, such as Rimmel London ScandalEyes Jumbo Liquid Eye Liner in "Black."

Monolids: Extend the product up the upper lid so the fold on the lower lid doesn't hide your liner. Jeung recommends using a waterproof black pencil, like Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil, along the lashline from inner to outer corner and stopping where the eye ends. You can also smudge it out at the outer corners, using a small smudger brush, like Bobbi Brown Eye Smudge Brush".

Wide Eyes: Wide eyes can handle a lot of look, so go bold. Jeung loves a really thick cat-eye on this eye shape. Using a waterproof black liner pencil, create a tiny "V" in the inner corner of your eye. Then, go over the line with a liquid liner, like Ciatè Double Lines Liner" (a waterproof, dual-sided liner with a soft kajal eyeliner on one end and ultra-black liquid liner on the other), and wing it out at the outer corner for a patent-leather look.

Small Eyes: To widen small eyes, apply a taupe shadow over the eyelid all the way up to the crease. Next, along the lashline, use a black kohl pencil. Try Chanel Le Crayon Khôl Intense Eye Pencil in "Noir." Smudge it with your fingertip and top with a dark brown eye shadow, increasing the amount of shadow at the outer corners. Try Nars Matte Eyeshadow in "Coconut Grove." Along the lower lashline, repeat the black liner/brown shadow combo. Lastly, apply a light pink blush, like Benefit Cosmetics Coralista, using a fluffy eyeshadow brush to the upper outer corners of your eyelid, which instantly opens up the eye.

Almond Eyes: To accentuate almond eyes, line the inner upper and lower lashes with a waterproof kohl pencil the entire way around your eyes, then trace the outer corners of the upper and lower lashlines, smudging it with a smudged brush. Then, top it with a gunmetal gray shadow to soften it and use bronzer to accentuate the crease for a natural effect. Try Charlotte Tilbury Rock 'N' Kohl Bedroom Black Iconic Liquid Eye Pencil, and MAC Cosmetics Eye Shadow in "Scene.

Eyeliner Application Tips & Tricks

Some women pull off their eyeliner with ease, getting the perfect look in a matter of seconds. And then there are those who struggle. You can stop worrying now. We’ve got a few tricks that will make the effort worthwhile.

Eyebrows raised or not, mouth open or closed, chin jutting or not – every woman has her quirks when it comes to applying her eyeliner. Doesn’t matter if she’s quick at getting the job done today; nearly every woman has gone through the initial stages of struggle while learning how to perfect her eyeliner.
If you are someone who still stresses, here are a few eyeliner application tips and tricks to getting that perfect stroke.
1 Identify your eyelinerThere are three types of eyeliner products – pencil, gel and liquid. What you choose depends on the level of confidence, expertise and final look that you want.
  • Pencil is easier to apply, but doesn’t spread as smoothly as a gel or liquid liner. You also don’t get a very thick line with it.
  • Gel liners are easy to apply and spread. You get it in a small pot and brush.
  • We all know liquid liners. Small bottles with a precision brush, these require more practise and a steady hand.
#2 Steady the shaky handIf your hand shakes a lot (nearly everyone’s does) then this is what you can do:
1. Sit at the dressing table.
2. Place your elbow on a steady, flat surface.
3. Rest your little finger on your cheek.
4. Apply the liner.
#3 Connect the dotsIf you’re still not confident, you can begin with dots which you simply join. You can do the same with dashes. Remember to make the dots the same size as the liner you want.
You can also first draw the line with a pencil and then use the liquid to get a neat look.
#4 Eye shadow to the rescueYou can turn a disaster into a special look. Another of our favourite eyeliner tricks is to apply a little black eye shadow to hide a less-than-perfect eyeliner line.

#5 Have you tried tight lining? If you’re just starting with eyeliners and are not sure of the made-up eyes look just yet, try tight lining: putting the liner beneath your lash line. Use a waterproof liner so it doesn’t rub off in case of watery eyes.
6 Dab on a bit of powderLiquid eyeliner takes a while to dry and you might accidentally give yourself a crease stamp. Instead of rubbing it off and risking spoiling the liner, dab on a little translucent powder.
#7 Use your eyelash curlerHere’s a hack for the lazy and unsure woman. Apply the liner on your eyelash curler. This will save you time and also get you that elusive straight line. Use the eye pencil for this. You might need to finish the job a bit by hand.
#8 Conceal the mistakesInstead of starting all over (again and again) use a tiny bit of a primer or concealer to hide smudges. Clear lip gloss also does the trick. You can also use Olay Eyes Ultimate Eye Cream which has a touch of concealer and also works as a Decircler, DeWrinkler & DePuffer.
#9 Don't pull your skinLet your face and eyes remain in their natural position to get the perfect line. Don’t pull the skin while drawing the line and you will get just the right shape.
#10 From the end to the beginningHere’s a little secret to getting the perfect angle on your winged lines. Start from the outside, towards your eye instead of away from it.
#11 Turn your eye shadow into a linerEyeliner gone lumpy? Don't worry. Create your custom eyeliner with a wet liner brush and your favourite eye shadow.
#12 Do you have monolids? If your eyelids are small (monolids), draw a thicker arch to create the perfect line. When you open your eyes, the line will look perfect.
#13 Make the colours popUse white eyeliner to make dull eye shadow stand out. Cover your eyelid with the white liner and then apply the eye shadow.
#14 Always keep a skin-coloured liner handyAnother of the lesser known eyeliner tips is to use a skin-coloured liner to correct any mistakes. This is also a great way to get a clean finish.
#15 From day to night, in a strokeInstead of redoing your eye makeup for the night, up the glam quotient with just a stroke of a glitter liner. And totally transform your look.
That’s an exhaustive but very useful list of eyeliner makeup tips. Keep them handy, keep practising and you will definitely perfect your eyeliner technique.
